Advanced Life Support
Level 2

ARC Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) is a two-day advanced resuscitation program focused on clinical leadership, complex cardiac arrest management, and high-performance team coordination in dynamic clinical environments.

Course Content

——————————————

Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) is an intensive, two-day ARC-accredited program for clinicians who lead or regularly manage high-risk deterioration and cardiac arrest.
Through immersive simulation, structured debriefing, and advanced decision-making scenarios, ALS2 strengthens your ability to coordinate a team, maintain situational awareness, and deliver consistent, guideline-aligned care under pressure.
What You Will Learn:
  • Recognition, assessment, and management of the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
  • Advanced airway management skills
  • Basic Life Support, including safe defibrillation
  • Complex cardiac arrest management using the ARC ALS Algorithm
  • Leadership and structured team coordination in cardiac arrest and peri-arrest scenarios
  • Advanced rhythm recognition and management of life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Management of special circumstances
    (e.g. pregnancy, anaphylaxis, asthma)
  • Post-ROSC care priorities and forward planning

How You Will Learn:
Delivered through concise, high-yield teaching, practical workshops, and progressive simulation scenarios, ALS2 emphasises clinical reasoning, leadership, and team performance. You will practise coordinating care in evolving scenarios, receive targeted faculty feedback, and consolidate learning through structured debrief after each simulation.

Eligibility

This course is designed for clinicians working in high-acuity and critical care environments, where they regularly participate in, and may be expected to lead, cardiac arrest and complex deterioration scenarios.

Appropriate participants include doctors, nurses and paramedics who regularly work within critical care areas and/or in resuscitation and medical emergency response teams.

Our courses can be contextualised to reflect your local clinical equipment, protocols, and scope of practice, including:
  • Critical Care & High-Acuity Clinical Areas
  • Pre-Hospital / First Responders
  • Select Commercial / Industrial Health Facilities

Prerequisites

Completion of ALS1 is not mandatory prior to attending ALS2. However, ALS2 assumes a higher level of foundational knowledge and recent clinical exposure to deterioration and resuscitation events.

Candidates are expected to:
  • be registered with AHPRA
  • have some experience with basic life support (including CPR)
  • complete the provided pre-course learning prior to attendance

Once enrolled and paid, we will send your copy of the Australian Resuscitation Council’s (ARC) Advanced Life Support Level 2 course manual for self-guided pre-reading.

Assessment

Continuous assessment occurs throughout the ALS2 course.

However, to successfully complete the course, candidates must demonstrate safe and competent independent management of a cardiac arrest simulation and achieve a satisfactory result in the multiple-choice questionnaire.

Assessment is based on structured clinical scenarios designed to evaluate the core competencies taught during the course.

Successful candidates will receive a digital ARC ALS2 provider certification in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council requirements. This certification is valid for four (4) years and is recognised Australia-wide and throughout the UK and Europe.

CPD Points

All ARC ALS courses are eligible for CPD points from the following colleges:

However, as the systems vary between professional colleges, state and individual organisations, candidates should check with their respective professional bodies for the latest requirements.
