Advanced Life Support Level 1
$595 pp
Overview
This one day internationally accredited course has been developed to introduce the teaching of cardiac arrest and resuscitation management.
The ALS course consists of lectures, practical workshops and cardiac arrest scenarios, providing the opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge.
The course will emphasise the importance of teamwork prior to safe transfer into a critical care environment.
Course Content
- Recognition, assessment and management of the critically ill patient using a structured ABCDE approach
- Airway management skills
- Basic Life Support
- Defibrillation skills (Manual and/or AED modes)
- Cardiac arrest management using the ARC ALS Algorithm
- Work as an effective team member in a cardiac arrest
Cost
- $595 per/person
Eligibility
All registered medical practitioners, nurses, paramedics and some advanced practice allied health.
Assessment
Assessments are based on clinical scenarios that allow the participants to demonstrate the core competencies that have been taught on the course. Continuous assessment of candidates occurs throughout, including using clinical simulations that allow candidates to demonstrate the core competencies that have been taught on the course.
The ALS provider card will be issued by the Australian Resuscitation Council after successful completion of the course. The card is valid for four years, and is recognised Australia-wide and throughout the UK and Europe.
Faculty
All Instructors on our ALS courses have undergone training and development in order to be registered by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) as an Instructor as set down in their course regulations. ARC Instructors follow a prescribed development pathway to ensure the maintenance of high standards.
ARC ALS courses are eligible for CPD points from the following colleges:
- Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
- Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)
- Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)
- College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (CICM)
- Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)

This two day internationally accredited course has been developed to standardise the teaching of cardiac arrest and resuscitation management.
The ALS course consists of lectures, practical workshops and cardiac arrest scenarios, providing the opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge.
The course will emphasise the importance of teamwork prior to safe transfer into a critical care environment.
Course Content
- Recognition, assessment and management of the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
- Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation
- Management of life-threatening arrhythmias
- Preparing and planning for post resuscitation care
- Care for the deteriorating patient or patient in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and pregnancy
- Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills including giving an effective handover

Eligibility
All registered medical practitioners, nurses and critical care paramedics, competent in basic life support
Assessment

Overview
Through an innovative blended learning approach, combining e-Learning and face-to-face workshops the TELL Centre’s highly acclaimed suite of professional development foundation workshops assist health professionals to develop their workplace based clinical teaching, supervision and assessment skills.
The modular nature of the TOTR allows the Resus Skills Centre the ability to offer these workshops as either individual two-hour workshops or combined into a one or two day course to suit your needs.

Eligibility
Any and all health professionals are welcome.
Assessment
Participants are required to complete online learning modules before attending the face to face workshops where continuous assessment takes place. A certificate of completion will be provided to participants issued by the TELL Centre once all face to face and online learning components have been completed.

We are Kev & Jon
We have passion for high quality, evidence based, peer reviewed clinical education and training.
Years of working and teaching together has ignited a desire to take what we have learned, and share it with all health care providers throughout the NT.
Our goal being to ensure every clinician has access to the resuscitation skills and training that we were fortunate enough to receive.
Kev is an Emergency Nurse with a Masters in Advanced Nursing (Emergency) who has spent many years honing his emergency and critical care skills in Sydney and Darwin. He has worked in many senior emergency nursing positions, represented emergency nurses at a national level, and has taught on numerous nationally recognised medical short courses.
Jon is also an Emergency Nurse with a Diploma of Nursing Practice (Emergency). He is a clinical leader and educator in the emergency nursing field, with extensive experience teaching advanced life support along with multiple other medical short courses in the emergency and trauma landscape.
